About

Andy is a PhD candidate at BDSI and CSIRO with an interest in finding new, interesting things in old data. He received a Bachelor of Science (Adv) from the University of Sydney and an Honours in Biotechnology from Monash University. The focus of his PhD is in understanding the intra- and inter-species variation in pest moths and how this influences the evolution and radiation of pesticide resistance. A primary focus is on developing statistical, bioinformatic and modelling approaches for working with highly variable genetic data in a pan-genome structure. Leveraging old archival data in combination with next generation sequencing technology Andy hopes to be able to fill in the gaps in the understanding of how and why resistance evolves.
